Les Adieux à la reine (Farewell My Queen) Directed by Benoit Jacquote

Chateau De Versailles played host to world-renowned director Benoit Jacquot and his cast of international stars for the filming of Chantal Thomas’ prize-winning novel, Les Adieux à la reine (Farewell My Queen.) The film, set in July 1789, portrays the first days of the French Revolution through the eyes of Queen Marie Antionette’s servants, with the focus on the queen’s close confidant, lady-in-waiting and reader Sidonie Laborde. The film is said to draw parallels to the present with ironic overtones. The film opens February 9, 2012 at the 62nd annual Berlin International Film Festival.

We love period films such as this one, as much for the story as for the locations, sets and costumes. If the images coming out from the film’s PR team are any indication, the film won’t disappoint. We got a sneak peek of the filming via the Chateau De Versailles newsletter and Facebook page. We can’t wait to see the interior shots of the Palace.
